Battle for world domination with every roll of the dice in Risk!

Based on the classic board game of strategic conquest from Hasbro, Risk comes to life online where the object of the game is simple: Global Domination! Establish your military objectives, take command of your army and begin your campaign to rule the world. Risk is a turn based game with each player starting with their own controllable army in an attempt to capture territories from opposing players and control the entire map.

Acquire
The game of Risk starts with players taking turns selecting, or acquiring, a territory until all territories have been claimed. Once all territories have been claimed, the Deployment Phase begins.

Deploy
In the deployment phase, players place their remaining units on territories they occupy. Deployment is done one army per turn and ends when the last player has placed his last army.

Attack
Take turns with other players as you receive reinforcements, attack and ultimately capture your opponents' territories.

Fortify
Don't forget to strengthen your defenses and fortify your territories! Doing so will help you take control of the entire map.

RISK is a strategic board game for 3-5 players. It is played on a map of the Earth, divided into 42 territories on 6 continents. Each player starts with and controls their own army and attempt to capture territories from opposing players. The object of the game is simple: Global Domination!

At the start of each game you will choose your color then acquire and deploy your armies. Next, you will take turns with the other players as you receive reinforcements, attack, and fortify your defenses. Capturing one or more territories will earn you a territory card. When you collect three identical or three different territory cards you may cash them in for bonus armies. Capturing and controlling territories and continents also award bonus armies each turn.

Capturing territories comes during your Attack Phase, where you eliminate occupying opponent armies through a series of simulated dice rolls. The odds of victory are typically obvious (the army with the most units will usually win), but luck of the dice can reduce a sure victory into a shocking defeat. The element of "risk" is ever present!

Your game ends when you have control of the entire map (the default global domination rules), control 24 territories (an optional rule), you run out of turns and victor is declared (based on a combination of armies, territories, and territory cards), or you are eliminated. Good luck and have fun!

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Risk player.

If you prefer a single player game, click on the "Play against Robots" link on the Risk game home page. You will find the artificial intelligence to be a worthy opponent!

Risk plays in a super-sized 1000 x 600 game window. If you find the game window extends beyond the edge of your monitor, close the application and reset your screen resolution to at least 1024 x 768.

If you would like to begin your attack with less than the full attack dice (which then forces you to move fewer armies into the captured territory), RIGHT-click on the target opponent territory and you will be given the choice of attack dice (up to 3 if you have enough armies).

RISK cards become increasingly important as the game progresses, as each time the cards are turned in the number of bonus armies increases.

When customizing your game know the audience. Most players will be turned off with manual dice rolls or may not like the automatic set-up option. Gather your hard core RISK friends and play a long, manual dice rolling, no time limit game, or grab a few strangers for an ultra-fast game with all the speediest settings chosen!

Risk • Re: RISK

By Jessina258 » May 12th, 2012, 10:02 pm

The game keeps locking up on me after an ad break. It comes back to showing my cards but I can't click ok to proceed. I've tried 3 times to play and it will eventually lock up after a random ad. I have to quit by closing the game.

I have the most recent flashplayer and java versions and use Firefox. I'm going to give up trying to play unless someone has an idea to fix these lockups.

Risk • Negative Posts and Complaints about Pogo on the Forums

By pogo_Maul » May 11th, 2012, 6:02 pm

Due to the many current issues affecting members game play the Pogo Forums are receiving a lot of negative and unconstructive feedback. We are aware of the issues largely related to those unhappy with Embedded Game Pages (EGP), whether it be the design/lack of Pop-ups, or Games loading slowly, not able to continue after one game, or simply not loading at all. We are researching those issues and hope to have solutions in the coming weeks.

Because of the many current, common, and overly repeated complaints, and threats of unsubscribing we are simply going to remove or consolidate such posts as they simply are over burdening our Forum’s community in general. I would like to be clear, we are not ignoring these complaints and the issues that are triggering them. We are simply trying to maintain the forums as a relatively peaceful place where members can communicate in a positive and constructive manner.

Our Mods are here trying to help. If they remove a post it is because they are following Pogo’s and EA’s guidelines. If they feel for any reason that a post is negative or may incite negative responses they are well within their given powers to remove such a post.

Risk • Pogo is listening! :)

By pogo_Maul » May 10th, 2012, 6:30 pm

We know a lot of our members, Free and Club, have been having various ongoing and continuous issues with using our site for the last several weeks and month. We are working hard to try and narrow down the causes of these wide ranging problems.

The Game Loading and not being able to continue after playing a game are two of the largest issues that we are researching right now. We have been working directly with a few members to try and narrow down the symptoms and possible resolutions.

We have found a few things so far that are preventing players from normal game play, including certain browser add-ons and security settings. In many cases simply resetting the browser to its default settings and disabling add-ons that are not necessary for playing our games will resolve the problem.

We are still gathering information and as we do so, we will try to figure out if there are any adjustments we can make on our end so that these settings and add-ons do not interfere with people’s ability to play on Pogo. In some cases we may need to provide our users with more details on how they can make adjustments on their end so that they can continue playing. More details and information will be provided as they become more solid.

In addition to that, we also continue to look into the issues with Pop-up Game Windows, not being able to purchase Gems, various abuse issues, as well as new and old bugs.

We understand that these last few months with changes to our site, games, and EA Support have been very trying and we are indeed working to improve the experience for our fans. We greatly appreciate your patience.

note: I have locked this post because the issues mentioned are already being discussed by you and our other members in existing topics.

Some Game Loading Issue topics can be found here - viewforum.php?f=155

Yeah the programming on the game is an absolute joke and since they haven't bothered to fix it, I won't be bothered to renew my account or the kids this year. I don't reward failure with money.

Some day at a party some dev is going to introduce himself as the ..... bad word removed.... who did this and I'll have some fun at that time.

I agree with your post 100%. Risk is one of the great board games and they have ruined it. There is no reason there couldn't be a random dice roll. Because the dice are so screwed up, you can't have fun and take chances based on actual odds. This is not sour grapes, I win at an 83% rate (well over 90% if you don't count the losses when Pogo throws you off). Yesterday I attacked 3 with 24 and lost!! Pogo stinks!!!!!

Whats wrong with Risk!, let me count the ways!

1. Hot or cold dice. A game with reasonable dice is rare, you either destroy, or get destroyed 90% of the time.
2. The rule to NOT allow people to replace computers after a game starts is ignored, allowing trolls to jump table to table with their grief! If they do not intend to honor the rule, remove it from the setup dialog.
3. CPU Hog, I have never seen another program so consistently peg the CPU at 100% with so little graphics and nothing else running on my pute.
4. Lost connections. I cannot count how many times I have been kicked from a game after wasting a half hour or more.
5. I realize this isn't real, but, how many complete idiots have you played that simply cannot lose? Its like Pogo has figured out a way to increase your odds in inverse proportion to you IQ. This also applies to azzholes, they talk garbage, then back it up by rolling consistently awesome dice all the while playing with zero useful strategy.
6. I cannot count the number of times, in key situations, where I was not allowed to trade my tradable set of cards, only to lose.
7. Computer players get an unrealistic number of three card trades, all the while I'm lucky to trade at four most of the time.
8. Customer service is useless. I would gladly pay if this place would improve the game over time, but they don't. No way I give them money to raise my blood pressure.

Its sad, the game Attack! on FB, was run by Zynga and it was awesome. Zynga of all companies can get this right, and EA with all their resources can not. Only one possibility, they don't care.

Risk • can't get risk to work on IE, Firefox or Chrome

By jogjer42 » May 1st, 2012, 4:37 am

I get the yellow screen of death everytime I try to run risk. It loads to the point of displaying the animated pogo.com and soon after that dies displaying a blank yellow screen. I have tried clearing the cache of all three browsers but I still get the same problem. Is this game incompatible with vista? Other pogo games work fine but this one does not.

I have had nothing but problems with entering a room, sometimes I would get a "LEAVE TERESA" and other "Whoa your pop up Blocker is enabled... I wrestled with Java, enableing pop ups on all fronts, disabled firewalls (norton, etc) to no avail. I finally contacted our help support team, and had a live chat. The person shared my screen and did some configuring and sha bam! The problem is fixed. Soooo any of you Riskers that are having configuration delimas, go to live chat with a technician. :D

I'd like to add one more thing that Pogo does on Risk that gets on my nerves.

The dice rolls at the beginning that decides who goes first? Well, I was clearly 3rd and they put me last...
When I was 2nd, they put me 3rd.

By ShutYerYap » April 14th, 2012, 5:13 pm

Love the Game of Risk! Don't so much love this version as the dice are a complete joke. They run hot or cold so often, its just completely unrealistic. I can't count how many games I have started unable to get a card in the first round while losing every single roll. Or how many times I've had 15+ armies in a single territory and when attacked, I lost all of them without taking a single army from my attacker. And the kicker, this behavior isn't random, its all game long, you get your butt handed to you, or you roll through people like they're not even there. Neither way is fun.

Fix the POGO dice already!

Edit: I once again am amused that Pogo thinks that replacing any slightly offensive word with Pogo is a good idea. Is it your goal to introduce the idea of 'I got Pogo'ed!" into the American lexicon?
